Single Mutant Ape sells for $3.6M, stirs up demand

With Bored Ape Yacht Club NFTs becoming one of the most popular NFT collections of all time, its spin-off NFT collection is not too far behind.

Mutant Ape Yacht Club, a by-product NFT collection which is minted by combining ‘mutant serums’ with Bored Ape NFTs, has seen a 500% spike in trading volume on NFT marketplace OpenSea after a Mutant Ape was sold for $3.6 million worth of ETH.

As per data gathered from NFT analytics site CryptoSlam, Mutant Apes have seen a combined trading volume of $70.9 million on secondary marketplaces just last week. The figure is more than 500% of its trading volume recorded the week before that.

The demand for Mutant Ape stirred after a single Mega Mutant Serum was sold for 888.88 ETH, $3.6 million at the time of purchase. It was bought by Taylor Gerring, a co-founder and former Director of Technology of The Ethereum Foundation. The sale resulted in a hike in its average sale price of 12.3 ETH.

Out of the total 20,000 NFTs in the Mutant Ape collection, its developer Yuga Labs sold about 10,000 in August. The successful sale whipped up $96 million worth of ETH at the time.
