Bitstamp’s head of operations in the U.S., Hunter Merghart, is leaving the company to join the early-stage crypto fund Castle Island Ventures.
Merghart is joining Castle Island Ventures as an executive in residence and venture partner, as announced via his Twitter page Tuesday. He joined Bitstamp in April 2019, becoming the company's first U.S. employee, having previously spent a year as head of trading for Coinbase. Merghart also previously worked at Barclays and RBC in the seven years prior. Castle Island Ventures is an early-stage crypto fund. It raised $50 million for its second fund from high-net-worth individual family offices and others in February. In April, Fidelity Digital Asset's research director Mrinalini Bhutoria also joined Castle Island Ventures as a principal.
